The OLOP Youth Center exists to create a caring community in which all students have equal opportunities to develop their personal visions. All students at Skyline High School will have a success story and a personal vision for themselves and the world. The success of one student will mean the success of all students. Through community collaboration and in partnership between youth and adult allies, the OLOP Youth Center provides services and engages in advocacy efforts so that students may improve their physical and mental health, as well as strengthen their academic, social and leadership skills. The Skyline High School OLOP Youth Center is committed to and promotes an environment that fosters peace, unity, and justice and strengthens student voices. Students will empower each other to improve Skyline High School.

After-School Programs

College Tours to Local Colleges

9th-12th Grade
This program will expose students to different types of college campuses, resources and support groups to increase their interest in pursuing higher education.

Dual Enrollment

9th-12th Grade
In partnership with Peralta Colleges, students are able to take college courses after school that focuses on academic support, and visual arts that differ from what they offered during the school day.

Skyline After-School Study Hall

9th- 12th Grade
Host study hall and tutoring services for all SHS students to help students maintain an “C” average of higher in all classes and attend class regularly.

After-School Drop-In Tutoring

9th-10th Grade
Focused primarily on helping students to increase understanding in Math, English and other core subjects.

Peer Tutoring Program

11th - 12th Grade
Students are given the opportunity to tutor their peers in Math, English and Languages Other Than English. Peer tutors will work directly with line staff to identify and individually support students in programming that need support academically in their core classes.

Real Hard

9th - 12th Grade
Oakland Kids First hosting a space on campus to run their Real Hard Program on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:40pm - 5:30pm. Students have the opportunity to change their school, build community, have fun and get a stipend!

Teen On Target

9th - 12th Grade
This program gives students the opportunity to share their stories, be a part of the change in their community, mentor the younger generation, advocate to stop the violence and get paid while doing it! Meeting will happen after-school on Wednesdays and Fridays!

Reel Oakland

9th - 12th Grade
Reel Oakland is an immersive and hands-on after-school program for inner-city youth in Oakland, CA. Reel Oakland provides students the unique opportunity to produce a short film focusing on specific genres that sparks their interests such as, documentary, drama, comedy, romance etc. Students will understand the power of filmmaking and how it can be used for advocacy and how filmmaking can shape the way we see the world.  

OLOP Internship

9th - 12th Grade
Workshops and discussions focused on community building, self-esteem, womanhood, and skill building.

Drivers’ Education

Students who are 15 ½ will receive instructional hours through an online course to receive their pink slip needed to obtain a California Driver’s License

Workshop Wednesdays

9th-12th Grade
Weekly workshops focused on academic enrichment, Do It Yourself (DIY) projects, cultural and self-awareness seminars, and skill building.

Fun Fridays

This program provides a safe and healthy space where students will learn with fun activities.

The Youth Center is open before school for any student that needs a space to study, finish assignments or utilize the technologies available.

Latina Girls Group

9th - 12th Grade
This program provides a safe and supportive environment for young Latina women providing mentorship and academic support

Polynesian Dance Club

11th-12th Grade
Offered 4 days out of the week for a total of 12 hours. This program focuses on dancing, stretching, and conditioning.

Family Engagement

9th-12th Grade
Offered 4 days out of the week for a total of 4 hours. This program focused on Attendance Interventions, SART Evaluations, Academic Interventions, etc.
