OAKLAND, CA.,: On Friday, November 9th, 2018, Youth Together, in collaboration with the McClymonds community, threw our first Unity Day of the 2018 School Year. We are so thankful to have been able to partner with McClymonds and the various community organizations that came through to table and engage with youth! It is through their tireless commitment to giving students opportunities and resources, as well as being loving, caring adult allies, that makes the work that we do possible, and fruitful.
The lunchtime event consisted of tabling organizations, free food for participants, games, prizes, and even a raffle! Over the course of the lunch, we were able to engage 80+ students in social justice topics, and connect them with community organizations and resources that will help them live long, healthy lives, and organize to better their current conditions.
Also during the lunchtime event, we were able to ask students various questions about their experiences in their educations, and their thoughts on how school resources could best be used. See a few of their responses below!
Lastly, we want to take the time to sincerely thank each and everyone of the of the people and organizations that made this possible. Big shoutout to The Black Organizing Project, The Asian Prisoner Support Committee, and Youth Speaks for holding it down in the Plaza of Peace and engaging young folks in their work. It is you all, and all of the amazing work that you do that allows us to become stronger and better together. We so deeply appreciate all of the energy and support that you all have given, and are excited to continue doing this good work with you all in the future.
